Product FAQs
1. Does this kit include everything needed to start recording straight away?
No. The kit includes 6 x 5MP cameras and the DHI-NVR4108HS-8P-AI/ANZ NVR. You will need a hard drive for recording, a Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable to connect each camera to the NVR, and a monitor or television for on-site playback. Remote viewing via the DMSS app is available once the NVR is connected to your router.
2. Can I add more cameras to this system after purchase?
Yes. The NVR has 8 PoE ports and supports 8 channels, so you can add up to 2 more cameras before requires to upgrade to an 16-channel or larger Dahua WizSense NVR. If you anticipate needing additional cameras in the future, planning your total camera count before purchasing avoids the cost of replacing the NVR later.
3. Are these cameras suitable for outdoor installation in Australian conditions?
Yes. Each DH-IPC-HDW2541EMP-AS-ANZ carries an IP67 weatherproof rating, providing full protection against dust ingress and tolerance of temporary water immersion. This makes the turret cameras suitable for exposed eave, fence, and carport mounting across all Australian climates, including coastal and tropical environments with high humidity and heavy rainfall.
4. Do the cameras record audio, and what should I know about that in Australia?
Each camera includes a built-in microphone and records audio alongside video to the NVR. Australian surveillance laws vary by state, and audio recording is generally subject to stricter requirements than video. Recording audio in private spaces or without the knowledge of those being recorded may be restricted or prohibited depending on your state legislation. You are responsible for ensuring compliance with the applicable laws in your state before enabling audio recording.
5. Does this system work without an internet connection?
Yes. The system records locally to the hard drive without an internet connection. Internet is only required if you want remote viewing through the DMSS app, receive motion notifications, or access the system while away from your property.
6. What happens during a power outage?
Recording will stop while power is unavailable. Once power is restored, the NVR and cameras automatically restart and resume recording according to their configured schedule.
7. What Ethernet cable do I need to connect the cameras to the NVR?
Cat5e is the minimum requirement for reliable PoE data and power delivery. Cat6 is recommended for new installations, as it provides additional headroom for interference rejection over longer cable runs and supports future hardware upgrades without rewiring. Each camera requires a single Ethernet cable run back to the NVR, with a maximum PoE distance of 100 meters per run.
