Product FAQs

1. Does this kit include everything needed to start recording straight away?
No. The kit includes 4 x 8MP cameras and the DHI-NVR4104HS-P-AI/ANZ NVR. You will need a hard drive for recording, a Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable to connect each camera to the NVR, and a monitor or television for on-site playback. Remote viewing via the DMSS app is available once the NVR is connected to your router.

2. Can I view the cameras on my phone?
Yes. Once the NVR is connected to your internet router, you can view live video, playback recordings, receive motion notifications, and manage the system remotely using the DMSS app on iOS and Android devices.

3. Does this system record continuously or only when motion is detected?
The NVR supports both continuous 24/7 recording and motion-triggered recording. You can also schedule different recording modes for different times of the day through the NVR settings.

4. Do the cameras record audio, and what should I know about that in Australia?
Each camera includes a built-in microphone and records audio alongside video to the NVR. Australian surveillance laws vary by state, and audio recording is generally subject to stricter requirements than video. Recording audio in private spaces or without the knowledge of those being recorded may be restricted or prohibited depending on your state legislation. You are responsible for ensuring compliance with the applicable laws in your state before enabling audio recording.

5. What Ethernet cable do I need to connect the cameras to the NVR?
Cat5e is the minimum requirement for reliable PoE data and power delivery. Cat6 is recommended for new installations, as it provides additional headroom for interference rejection over longer cable runs and supports future hardware upgrades without rewiring. Each camera requires a single Ethernet cable run back to the NVR, with a maximum PoE distance of 100 meters per run.

6. Can I install the system myself?
Yes. If you are comfortable running Ethernet cables and mounting cameras, many homeowners install the system themselves. Each camera only requires a single Ethernet cable back to the NVR for both power and data using PoE.

7. Does the NVR make any noise?
The NVR is quite loud due to the fan running to cool down the system. Its recommended that the customer installed the NVR away from the bedroom and in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating and ensure reliable long-term operation.
